throughlines

At Byron Center Christian, learning is more than mastery of the curriculum. It shapes who we are. Throughlines are discipleship habits and practices that both form the learners and transform God’s world around them. Throughlines help students, teachers, and parents imagine what it means to be a disciple within God’s story. They also articulate a vision for how their school’s graduates will live. As the learners are provided opportunities to engage in “real work that meets real needs for real people,” they are given direction in how to engage—as God worshipers, justice seekers, and beauty creators, for example. Throughlines ensure the focus is not just about what the learner should know; they propel us to educate for who the learner is called to be within God’s story.

Beauty Creator

As image bearers of a creative God, we glorify God by creating beautiful things.

Community Builder

We actively invite others into our community by showing grace and peace. We make space for the belonging of others.

Creation Enjoyer

We discover, celebrate, and give testimony to the presence of God in creation.

Earth Keeper

We respond to God’s call to be caretakers of creation. We can tend and care for the earth and all things in it.

Order Discoverer

We see God’s fingerprints and order all over creation. God is the ultimate designer!

God Worshiper

Worshiping God is about celebrating who God is, what He has done, and what He has created. We stand in awe of Him.

Idolatry Discerner

When other things are more important to us than our relationship with God, they become idols. We can identify, understand, and discern the idols of our time and then respond.

Image Reflector

We reflect God to others, and we delight in the image of God that is in all people.

Justice Seeker

We can be agents of change by identifying and responding to injustices.

Servant Worker

We take action to heal brokenness and bring joy to individuals and to culture. We bring hope, help, and healing.
